Virtual reality
Digital and agile industrial design with virtual reality
We at defortec are experts in industrial design, especially of technically sophisticated products. Especially in large systems, assessing proportions and appearance is not always easy with conventional forms of presentation. For a long time we have been looking for ways to present our design concepts better, faster and more comprehensively. Today we rely on virtual reality - and are able to display functionality in three dimensions in addition to the design. And that regardless of the dimensions of a product, a machine or a system. Even small products can be better verified using virtual reality in industrial design - for example when it comes to integration into other structures.
Future-oriented working with virtual reality
We spent a long time thinking about how to eliminate this uncertainty factor - one option would have been full-size mockups, but creating them would go beyond all budgets and schedules. Instead, we decided to invest in virtual reality. This technology, which until recently was associated with enormous IT use, can now also be implemented on smaller systems. Although it is still complex to use, it is making enormous progress.
5 reasons why you should use virtual reality
✓ Use more agile development processes
✓ Make your design decisions with greater confidence
✓ Experience the dimensions realistically in 3D
✓ Check functions, ergonomics and collisions
✓ Compare new and previous concepts
From model to virtual reality
Traditionally, the proportions, appearance, ergonomics, details and interfaces of a design are reliably checked on a full-size model - even for larger systems in the design of machines. Such mock-ups serve as very effective decision-making aids, but their construction requires a lot of time simply because of the size and complexity. At the latest when it comes to the representation of variants, you quickly reach fundamental limits. Presentations in virtual space are more flexible, faster and cheaper.
Virtual prototypes
Today's industrial design also needs faster methods that are embedded in the digital workflow and allow for agile changes. It was therefore clear to us for a long time that the solution was virtual reality. This technology, which until recently was associated with enormous IT use, can now also be implemented on compact systems. Although it is still complex to use, it is making enormous progress. We have also tested various systems and are constantly investing in the expansion of VR technology.
Virtual reality comes to you
We can now present the VR models not only in our own VR room, but also directly at your location. Thanks to mobile equipment that does not require sensors and markers for orientation in space, we are extremely flexible when it comes to presentations. And all at true 4K resolution!
Functional tests included
In the defortec VR room you can experience your design product long before it actually stands in front of you in three dimensions. You get an extremely realistic overall impression including details, moving elements and variants. You can walk around the design product, look at it from different perspectives and also look inside. The latter option is particularly important when it comes to accessibility of maintenance areas or operation. And you can even check functionality, rule out collisions between individual components and evaluate ergonomics.
Virtual reality makes industrial design more agile
Our VR service supports you in making safe decisions or initiating changes long before we reach the prototype stage. We can immediately enter changes, adjustments or optimizations into the digital model in our design office in the greater Stuttgart area and display them via the VR system. In this way, iterations and development loops can be carried out more quickly, the entire development and design process becomes more agile, and time-to-market is shorter.
