German Design Award Gold 2026

defortec sets new standards once again: The OkuStim 2 system for treating retinitis pigmentosa has been awarded the German Design Award 2026 in gold. The challenge: to design complex medical technology in such a way that patients with visual impairments can use the system safely at home.
With Okuvision, defortec developed a compact headset. Electronics and power supply were integrated into a minimal space, and operation was simplified as much as possible. Magnetic fixings enable contact-free and, above all, user-friendly, safe insertion of the electrodes.
OkuStim 2 is the result of an iterative development process that involved users from the outset.
