VOITH
Headbox forwet paper application
Paper quality is significantly influenced by fiber orientation and ply formation - and this happens during paper application at the headbox. Voith and defortec have jointly developed the industrial design and some innovative ideas come from defortec. The headbox is designed to provide superior ply formation and fiber distribution, ensuring optimum performance with different paper grades. With a width of up to 12 meters [39.71ft] and the need for an extremely precise and thin nip opening for homogeneous paper application and high internal pressures at the same time, the headbox is a challenge in itself.
Voith's development engineers were able to reduce energy consumption by up to 40%, resulting in considerable savings in operating costs and a significantly lower environmental impact.

Intelligent Industrialdesign
Probably the biggest challenge lies in the structure of the headbox: a modular structure that can reach a total width of up to 12 meters [39.71ft] requires intelligent, modular machine cladding. Manufacturing such long and complex sheet metal parts is another challenge, but the design office has developed an ingenious solution inspired by airplane wings. The result is parts that are not only rigid, lightweight and precise, but also easy to manufacture, simplifying production processes and reducing costs. The slightly overlapping surfaces ensure a high quality impression of the product, the surfaces run cleanly into each other.
The MasterJet 4Tec Headbox is therefore another new Voith Paper product with a clean design.
Defortec has also taken into account the available sheet sizes to further simplify manufacturability
